The sculpture representing the fall was placed today. This is sculpture #3 of a four part initiative. Creation and Redemption were placed last year. I don’t think they have released the plans for consummation.

IIS on Tomcat - same server, same port

***Warning – Geek Post Ahead.***

In the interest of being difficult, cheap, and looking for adventure we are choosing to run IIS and Tomcat (or for that matter other web servers) on the same physical box. This is a piece of cake if you want to use multiple ports. We feel that is a clumsy solution and sought an alternative. We are using port 80 for both IIS and tomcat by assigning multiple IP addresses to the box and configuring each web server to only listen to one IP address.

1.Assign multiple IP addresses to NIC and create DNS entries
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/multiipa.html
2. Disable IIS Connection Pooling
cd c:\inetpub\adminscripts
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/disablesocketpooling true
http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-10879_11-5841376.html
3.Set IIS to listen to specific IP address
IIS Administrator.
Right Click on Website
Click Properties
Website Tab
Specify desired IP address
4. Restart IIS
5. Configure Tomcat to listen to a specific IP address
Edit conf/server.xml
Add/change the address attribute of the connector to <connector … address=”123.45.67.89″ …>

If you have multiple sites running on IIS, even if they are stopped, you need to change their IP assignments to only your desired IP. This tripped us up for a while.

Enjoy!

Umm, So I know it can sometimes be difficult to carry your stuff into the bathroom. When I’m at home I will often leave stuff outside the door. I guess I never thought I could do that at school as well. This person has and does. I should have looked at the ID card attached to the keys, but I really don’t want to know who this person is…

What now?

What now? Life returns back to normal. I’m working on homework, chatting on AIM, and surfing the internet. Tomorrow I go to work. Life will return to normal. Should it?

I’m Back from Biloxi.

I made it back safe and sound. I wish I weren’t back already. There is so much to be done down there. Some commitments prevented the trip from being longer. I guess I now have an afternoon free. Oh wait, I guess I can now give my homework the attention is deserves.

On they way back.

Written Sunday night on I65 north of Birmingham. Heading home. Listening to some FFH using John’s Bose headsets. I like them very much.

Where to start? So much has happened in the last 27 hours How do I blog it? Do I post a run down of events, a few highlights, or an in depth look at my innermost thoughts and feelings. The later isn’t going to happen. I’m not sure what all those are yet. Many are conflicting. I have a really hard time identifying highlights because everything is connected and if I just pull bits and pieces out I’m really not giving an accurate picture. No one really wants to read a run down. It lacks the personal touch and takes a long time. Normally I would probably just not do anything, but I know I shouldn’t do that. I guess I will just post pictures and highlight some observations, thoughts and experience..

Why does everyone sensationalize risk and danger so much? We heard stories from “reliable” sources that is was dangerous in Biloxi. Supposedly people were mobbing relieve vehicles and it was madness. We didn’t experience any of there. I never felt like I was in any danger. People were standing in orderly lines to get supplies. The gas lines were orderly. People were behaving civilly. I wonder how much of the portrait of N.O. is accurate. I had similar experiences on my trips to the Philippines and Israel.

The cheapest gas on the trip was in Mobile Alabama ($2.47.) No price gouging there. The line was only about 5 minutes long. The truck was unloading when we pulled in. The line was much longer when we pulled out. we ran into a group of officers from Cook County Illinois. They were brining a load of water down and were going to work for a while. They were putting their vests on which was a little bit disconcerting (note my previous paragraph)

We stumbled on an awesome church. It was the only church on the coast still standing. Other congregations from as far away as Tenn were brining people and supplies. I heard rumor of a congregation bringing stuff from as far away and California later this week. The people took us in gave the guys some great audio which will get used next week. We didn’t have a place to stay and were considering spending the night in the truck but a family opened their house to us. There wasn’t power but they had running water, and generator for some fans, and plenty of hospitality. We feasted on bar-b-q shrimp and fresh iced tea.

John and I drove around town assessing the damage. It is bad, but not hopeless. There are a lot of houses still standing and with minimal damage. People seem to be in good spirits and pulling through.

We stopped in Hattiesburg to check out the work of Spring Lake based International Aid. They are setting up a transfer station taking in loads of supplies from 53’ trailers, dividing it into smaller trucks and sending it down to where it is needed.

The trip north has been uneventful. We are just leaving Nashville. We should be stopping for the night in a little while. We hope to be in GR mid afternoon tomorrow. Ryan, over and out.

An exercise in patience

An exercise in patience. Most of you know me pretty well. For those of you that don’t: I’m pretty much a take action kind of guy. I like to formulate a plan and then execute it. When things change I like to either find a way around the hurdle or make a new plan and objective.

I am still sitting in Montgomery. We can’t reach our contact in Biloxi. Our contact in Destin isn’t going to be heading over to Biloxi because he doesn’t have any supplies to bring and there is enough stuff to do in Destin with the refugees arriving.

We are trying to fine out what we should do next. I feel we are just burning daylight. We have gas and some supplies (not much really.) I like to just get in the action an go figuring on hurdles and jumping them when we need to, but that might not be wise and that isn’t the style of my companions.

This is an exercise in patience and finding my role in a team situation. I want to take over  (Just my style, not a knock on anyone else) but I know that isn’t what I should do. I’m focusing on being patient, praying for direction and wisdom and waiting.
